Adia Victoria is establishing a fresh reference point on the musical landscape. From blood-born howls to idiosyncratic phrasing, the Nashville-based artist travels the lands of rock, afropunk, and country, squarely situated in the continent of the Blues.
Rolling Stone Magazine featured Adia as one of “10 New Artists You Need to Know.” The Village Voice called her an “eerie, intriguing songwriter,” with “bone chilling guitar riffs and lyrics topped with candid scorn." Vogue highlighted the recording artist as one of “5 Beauties Who Answer to Afropunk’s Rebellious Call” and Fader said “her sinister breed of gothic country music already feels fully formed.”
Adia released her debut full length record, “Beyond the Bloodhounds”, May 13, 2016. The title references the book “Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl” by Harriet Jacobs. Adia explains, “I thought about myself as a young black girl, all the experiences I’d gone through growing up in the south where I felt like everything in nature was set out to get me. All I wanted to do was get past these things that wanted to rip me apart and get to the other side. I feel like it’s something anybody can relate to. It doesn’t matter your age, your race or your gender, you know what it’s like to be under duress, under attack, by forces bigger than you. I wanted to pay homage to this brilliant black woman, and keep her story alive and to introduce other people to her in that way.”^
